Custom WordPress Website Design for an Industry Leader in Weather Radar Technology

EWR Radar Systems is one of the most established names in weather radar technology. Since 1982, the St. Louis manufacturer has designed and built advanced solid-state weather radar systems for the U.S. Department of Defense, NATO alliance members, international airports, meteorological agencies, and research organizations on all seven continents.

Their technology is world-class. Their website needed to catch up.

That’s when EWR partnered with Timmermann Group for a custom WordPress website design that could match the sophistication of their radar systems, without giving up the search visibility they’d spent years earning.

The Challenge

EWR didn’t have a visibility problem, but they had something to lose.

The existing site already held #1 Google rankings for high-value industry keywords like “solid state weather radar” and “portable doppler radar.” Those rankings represented years of accumulated authority. A poorly planned migration could have erased them, and the leads that came with them, almost overnight.

The deadline added a second layer of risk. The new website had to launch in time for a major industry trade show event. Strategy, design, development, SEO migration, and QA all had to fit inside a window that couldn’t budge.

How TG Helped

We approached the project as a website redesign and an SEO migration at the same time.

SEO wasn’t a launch-week checklist. We built it in from the first sitemap.

Before we designed a single page, we evaluated which pages, keywords, and URLs drove EWR’s organic performance, using that data to shape every structural decision that followed. The goal was to build a substantially better website without starting over in Google.

SEO Audit & Migration Planning

Knowing What to Protect Before Changing Anything

TG audited the existing site to identify the pages and keyword targets responsible for EWR’s rankings.

The team retained or strengthened high-performing content and assigned keyword targets during the sitemap process so new pages wouldn’t compete with one another. We made URL changes deliberately, with redirects mapped in advance. The team built technical SEO requirements into development from the start instead of patching them in later.

Site Architecture

Organizing Complex Products for Expert Buyers

EWR sells highly technical systems to highly technical buyers. A defense procurement officer, an airport operations manager, and a university researcher all arrive with different questions.

We built a product architecture that lets visitors explore by radar band (X-Band and C-Band), by configuration (portable, fixed, and custom), and by product model, including the E700, E800LP, E800, and E900 series. Individual model pages stay accessible alongside band category pages to support both navigation and search visibility.

Solid-state transmitter technology benefits EWR’s entire lineup, so it has its own dedicated technology story rather than being treated as a product filter. Industries and partner pages were given top-level placement because they do real work building trust with new buyers.

Custom WordPress Design & Development

Designing a Site That Matches the Technology

The new custom WordPress website presents EWR’s solid-state transmitters, digital signal processing, and proprietary radar software with the clarity and polish their buyers expect.

Clear conversion pathways guide visitors from product research to inquiry. Mobile usability was prioritized throughout, so decision-makers can evaluate EWR’s systems from anywhere, including a trade show floor.

Content Strategy

Putting EWR’s Expertise on the Page

Nobody explains weather radar better than the engineers who build it.

TG built the framework for every page, using existing website copy and giving the EWR team comprehensive guidelines to fill in the gaps. Our detailed page-by-page copy briefs spelled out exactly what each page needed, what we had already drafted for review, and what our team would handle. The result was content that carries EWR’s technical authority and maintains SEO success, delivered on a schedule that kept development moving.

Launch Planning

Hitting a Deadline That Couldn’t Move

With a fixed trade show date, project management mattered as much as design.

Our strategy, design, development, SEO, and project management teams ran workstreams in parallel and resolved open decisions quickly so progress never stalled. The new website launched on time, and EWR presented their updated digital presence alongside their products at the trade show.

Results

A Better Website Without Starting Over in Google

EWR launched a modern, custom WordPress website that finally reflects the sophistication of their technology, and their rankings followed.

All 10 priority keywords rank #1 following the migration. Seven held their top positions through the redesign, including “solid state weather radar,” “portable doppler radar,” and “fixed weather radar systems.”

Three keywords climbed to the top spot after launch. “Mobile weather radar systems” jumped 30 positions to #1, “ground based weather radar systems” gained 23 positions, and “ground based weather radar” moved up 7 positions, all now ranking #1.

EWR spent years earning their place at the top of Google. The new website kept them there, and moved them higher.
